Bhatkal: 12 August,21 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) A few final year students of the Mechanical department of Anjuman Technical College here have developed a solar-powered machine for cleaning beaches.
Under the guidance of College's Prof Padmayya Naik, students Safwan, Arsalan, Muhammed Sariq, and Mubarak have developed the machine at a cost of about Rs 35,000. The machine that functions as a robot can be controlled with the help of a remote controller.
The machine cleans garbage such as plastics, papers, and other waste on the beaches and it is environment-friendly as it functions with solar power.
Speaking to DH, Dr. Padmayya Naik said: "The machine functions using solar power instead of petrol or diesel. It can be used for cleaning beaches for about two to three hours. Besides, it can also be developed further and may be used by Town Municipal Councils and City Municipal Councils for cleaning. The machine helps to resolve labour problems. Hence, it can be used for collecting garbage in the limits of local bodies," he suggested.
The machine can be used for cleaning tourist spots including beaches. Uncleanliness is seen at the tourists' spots. In order to maintain cleanliness at such places, Dr Padmayya encouraged and guided the students to develop this machine.
The College management praised the work of the students.
