Bhatkal student scripts VTU history with 12 gold medals

Belgaum: A civil engineer student from Bhatkal college made history, bagging 12 gold medals in the examination conducted by Visvesvaraya Technological University. Vice Chancellor H Maheshappa told reporters here on Wednesday, April 23 that Nabeel Mustafa, from Anjuman Engineering College secured the medals with the highest aggregate marks in all eight semesters. This medal tally is the highest ever for VTU in its 13-year history in any discipline. Anushree R from Bangalore's BNM Institute of Technology secured the second position with eight gold medals and topped Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Waseem Ahmed Ahanger of Mysore's Vidyavardhak College of Engineering secured six gold medals, besides acing the exams in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Bangalore colleges bagged the maximum number of ranks - 112 - in overall performance in BE, BTech, B Arch, MBA and MCA courses. Dayanand Sagar College led the table with 51 ranks, including 37 in BE and BTech. The University's PG Study Centre in Belgaum claimed the second position with 28 ranks, Bangalore's MVJ bagged the third position with 21 ranks, Bangalore's BET and RVCE secured 20 each ranks, and Belgaum's GIT walked home with 18 ranks. The University will award the honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc) degrees to four eminent personalities- telecom evangelist Sam Pitroda, UGC chairman Ved Prakash, Technology Development Board H K Mittal, and Kirloskar systems chairman and MD Vikram Kirloaskar.
