Bhatkal 6 July 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Ever since intermittent rains lashed Bhatkal Taluka, residents have been complaining about the stagnant water, water logging, damaged roads in several parts of the Taluka while also questioning the  poor preparedness for monsoon of their respective local government bodies like TMC and Panchayaths. While the rains continues to batter the coastal Taluk, residents of Rahmatabad and Meena road which falls under the jurisdiction of Heble Panchayath, have been fighting stagnant water in their compounds so much so that the students have to walk through the compound walls on their way to schools. When Bhatkallys.com visited the spot, what the team sees is water logging for as far as they can see on the road of daily commute of the residents, while the mud that was laid ahead of the monsoon season making the case worst as the vehicles that passes by seen jammed and moving at a snail's speed to avoid being jammed. One of the house beside the road has a compound full of water logged as much as the stairs at the entrance of the house also are under the water. Speaking to Bhatkallys.com Usaal, the resident of the house hopelessly adds, "This happens during every monsoon and everytime it is brought to the notice of Panchayath officials yet not actions have been taken to prevent it this time either. The stagnant water is now home to hundreds of mosquitoes which can be dangerous as we have kids at our homes". "Even our commutation is effected with the water logging, add to it there are no street lights on the road so going out at nights even for prayers is difficult as animals like snakes and other reptiles can be there in the water, it is not just difficult but dangerous actually" Usaal adds. When contacted, ND Moger the President of Heble Panchayath said, "At this point we can't do anything, I visited the place a couple of days back, the mud that was laid by the residents has further worsened the case, plus there is no space left to create sewage". "I believe the residents will have to bare it this monsoon as we don't have any option to create alternative solution for it now, we can take this up when the monsoon is over and we can create some alternate route for the water when the water has dried up completely and there is no rain to disrupt the work, if we go for any type of construction now, it will only worsen things for residents" Moger claims. Area ward Councillor Syed Ali, however was not available to comment on the issue. The situation needs immediate special attention from the authorities before things go out of hands and it starts affecting the health of residents especially the kids, and merely asking them to wait till the monsoon gets over looks just another excuse which can come hard of the health and lives of the residents.
