Bhatkal: Son gets into physical scuffle with police for arresting father in cock-fight gambling, sent to 14 days judicial custody

Bhatkal 12 November 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Bhatkal rural police on Sunday arrested nine men for their involvement in cockfight gambling and seized a sum of Rs. 3,000 here at Biloorumane of Bhatkal Taluk. The accused have been identified as Kanaiah Naik (60), Goidah Naik (50), Devendra Naik (60), Mahadeva Naik (28), Nagesh Sherughar (32), Sannaiah Naik (55), Krishna Gonda (30), Malla Gonda (65) and Narayan Naik (65), all resident of rural places of Bhatkal Taluka. According to the sources, on Sunday evening around 4.00 pm a group of men were playing cockfight gambling at a hilly region of Biloorumane. Working on a tip-off, PSI Ravi GS along with his team raided the spot and detained about nine men, along with cash of Rs. 2,990/- and four fighter-cocks from spot. A case has been registered at Bhatkal rural police station. Upon getting the news of the arrest, son of one of the arrested person, Vasu Narayan Naik (41) visited Bhatkal rural police station and protested against the arrest while also hurling abuses to the police officials. He then allegedly got into a physical scuffle with a police constable and tried to force enter police station after pushing the constable aside. The Bhatkal town police then reached the spot and detained Vasu Naik and presented him before the court. Bhatkal Town PSI Kusumadhara, while speaking to Bhatkallys.com informed that the accused has been sent to 14 days judicial custody at Karwar jail. (Bhatkallys News Bureau)
