Bhatkal: Six electrical poles collapse during drainage repair works, HESCOM reports loss worth Rs. 50,000

Bhatkal 25 May 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) About six electrical poles collapsed while digging the ground for the drainage system through a Hitachi machine near Mankuli of Bhatkal here on Thursday 25 May 2018.
The drainage system at Mankuli near Bhatkal railway station was under construction for the last 15 days, however as the mud was being digged through a Hitachi, a electricity pole nearby collapsed to the ground, following which five other poles collapsed one after the other.
Soon the power was shut down and HESCOM officials visited the spot. The impact of the incident led to the power cut in the nearby localities including the railway station.
The Section officer of the HESCOM department Shrikanth conducted the investigation and said “The unscientific methods and carelessness of the contractors of this drainage system led to this incident”. He further added “The impact has left power cut to the nearby houses including the Railway station. However a loss of 50,000 has been reported but we will soon set the things up by Friday evening” he said.
