Bhatkal: 18 November 2025 (Bhatkallys News Bureau)  Shams Pre-University College, under the Tarbiyat Education Society, will hold its second science fair on November 20, 2025, with a strong focus on research and real-world problem solving. The first such fair was organised a decade ago.

Announcing the event at a press conference, Principal Liaquat Ali said the objective of this science fair is to go beyond model displays and encourage students to identify issues faced by the community and present research-based solutions. He said the college had been preparing for nearly two months and had invited participation from schools and colleges across Bhatkal taluk.

A total of 115 teams registered for the fair. After a round of mentoring and guidance, 46 teams were shortlisted to present their research. The event is being organised in collaboration with AJ Academy of Research and Development, Raichur.

During the press meet, the organisers shared examples of projects taken up by students, including a study on why certain areas in Bhatkal face waterlogging during rains and suggestions for improving drainage. Officials noted that similar student-led research has influenced government decisions in the past.

The principal said the idea is to help students build research skills early and inspire the next generation of scientists from Bhatkal. The organisers expressed hope that such initiatives would contribute to making Bhatkal a model town in the years to come.

The fair will be held in multiple sessions. The inauguration is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Schools and colleges can visit between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The slot for women is from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by general public and men from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All educational institutions in the taluk have been requested to send their students. Awards will be given to student participants under categories such as “budding scientists” and “emerging scientists” to encourage them to continue their research work.
