Bhatkal residents rallies to support accident victims

Bhatkal: Minutes after the news of horrifying road accident spread in the town that killed 8 people and injured more than 20 near Mudbhatkal, hundreds of Bhatkalis rushed to the accident site and started assisting in the rescue operations including removing dead bodies, making arrangements for ambulance, taking care of valuables which were scattered here and there and arranging food for accident victims and their families. When the ambulances fell short to transport injured to hospitals they arranged private vehicles and took care of its expenses.
The organizations of Bhatkal, who came forward to help the grief stricken victims included Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem;Top Emergency Helpline Association;Rabita society; JIH Bhatkal unit members; SIO Bhatkal unit; HRS unit members; Bhatkal Muslim Youth federation members and many other NGOs.
Additional S P of Uttara Kannada District Mr. Subhash Gudimane visited Bhatkal Government Hospital late in the night at around 2 pm to console the victims and their families.
Karwar District SP visited Bhatkal the next morning and inspected the accident spot before meeting the injured and their families. He had also been to see the dead bodies. Speaking to reporters he said that one of the reasons behind such accidents is also that there is only one driver driving the vehicle, even on long journeys. He requested the travel companies to appoint two drivers for long journeys to avoid such mishaps.
He appreciated the remarkable efforts and the help from the local people of Bhatkal in the rescue operation. He claimed that the rescue operation would be much more difficult in the heavy rain, if the people of Bhatkal would not extend their helping hand.
Bhatkal DySp M Narayan, PSI Suresh Nayak, PSI Prakash Devadiga, ASI Ramappa from Davangere Basavapatna police station and many other were present on the occasion.
