Bhatkal: Residents of Bhatkal have been facing hardship due to frequent power outages over the past several days. The situation has worsened following recent rains in some parts of the town, leading to a sharp increase in power cuts, particularly during the night. The rising summer heat, coupled with irregular power supply during the day, has made daily life difficult for citizens.
In addition to disrupting daily routines, the power cuts and voltage fluctuations have also caused damages to household electronic appliances such as refrigerators, fans, and televisions. Several residents have reported complete damage to valuable items, resulting in financial losses.
In response to growing public dissatisfaction, the prominent social and political organisation of Bhatkal, Majlis Islah-wa-Tanazeem, met local officials of HESCOM (Hubballi Electricity Supply Company Limited) on Monday and submitted a formal complaint. The delegation highlighted public grievances and demanded urgent action to stabilise the power supply.
Tanzeem representatives questioned HESCOM on its preparedness to manage increasing electricity demand. They also asked what steps the department is taking to prevent load shedding and voltage issues. The officials reportedly stated that if the 110 KV line is connected to both Bhatkal and Byndoor stations, most of the city's power-related problems could be resolved.
Residents present at the meeting informed officials that due to the low voltage and repeated outages, many of their electronic appliances have been damaged or destroyed. They urged the department to compensate those who have suffered losses due to equipment failures caused by unstable power supply.
Tanzeem leaders demanded immediate improvement in power services and control over voltage fluctuations. They also insisted on compensation for all affected households whose appliances were damaged due to poor electricity management.
Those present from the organisation during the meeting included Abdul Raqeeb MJ Nadvi, Mohiuddin Ruknuddin, Moulana Azizur Rahman Ruknuddin, SM Syed Parvez, and Mohiuddin Altaf Kharori.
