Bhatkal records 312 mm rainfall in 24 hours

21st July 2015 | Correspondent | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: Bhatkal recorded 312 mm of rain from Sunday morning to Monday morning leaving behind heavy trail of destruction with losses estimated to more than 1 crore of Rupees. Incessant rains accompanied with violent wind caused waterlogging in low-lying areas including Daranta, Chouthani, Mundali, Mood Bhatkal, Mogli Honda, Azad Nagar and other areas. Residents in some of the localities had to be shifted to safer places in the night as they remained inundated in water. Heavy rains completely defaced the road leading from Moglihonda to Bhatkal Main Road resulting in potholes at many places. On one end, rivers were flowing above the danger mark and on another end Shamsuddin Circle, Rangeen Katte, Mood Bhatkal resembled ponds. Even the National Highway remained inundated in rain water disrupting the movement of vehicles. Assistant Commissioner of Bhatkal, Tahsildar and other panchayat and government officials visited the areas affected by floods and took stock of the situation. Members of Tanzeem also visited the rain-affected places while members of Jamaat-e-Islami Bhatkal provided food items to houses affected by heavy rains. -ARF
