Bhatkal: The town of Bhatkal is mourning the sudden and untimely death of Mohtesham Yaseen, one of its most respected tutors and educationists, fondly known among thousands of students as Yaseen Sir. He passed away late Thursday night, August 1, after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 43 years old.
Mohtesham Yaseen had been actively involved in the field of education for more than two decades. He started Mohtesham Academy in 1998 and had since taught and mentored thousands of students in and around Bhatkal. His unique teaching style, friendly nature, and commitment to education made him one of the most loved figures in the town’s academic circle. He was also serving as an academic counselor and advisor with Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, Bhatkal.
According to family sources, Yaseen complained of chest pain late on Thursday night and was rushed to a local hospital. While arrangements were being made to shift him to Mangalore for further treatment, he reportedly suffered a massive heart attack and breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhatkal.
The news of his passing spread quickly on social media, following which hundreds of people rushed to his house past midnight. From former students to fellow teachers and community members, people from across Bhatkal gathered to express their grief.
In view of the large number of people who came to offer their final respects, funeral prayers were held at two historic mosques in the town. The first janaza prayer was offered at Khalifa Jamia Masjid soon after the Friday prayers, and later another janaza prayer was held at the Jamia Masjid, both of which saw huge gatherings of mourners. He was then laid to rest at the local burial ground, surrounded by grieving family, students, and well-wishers.
The atmosphere in Bhatkal remained heavy throughout the day, with many recalling Yaseen Sir’s role in shaping young lives and guiding students both academically and personally.
Condolences have been pouring in from all corners of the town, with many describing him as not just a teacher, but a mentor and a guiding light to an entire generation.
