Bhatkal 17 July 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Over the past few years the poor condition of the footpath near the BSNL tower has gathered lesser attention than it actually deserve. The poor condition of the footpath is now leading people to avoid it and walk through the sidelines of the NH 66, and the area being a busy and congested one, it also risks the live of pedestrians. The footpath beside the National Highway 66 that is a junction between the downtown and NH 66 which heads towards Mangaluru, is in unusable conditions for years now and interestingly without attracting any attention of the concerned departments and authorities. The pavement that was used by hundreds of students and other commuters including the cyclists everyday is now making it difficult for them to even walk over it, and the commuters have now started to abandon it and walk and cycle through the sidelines of NH 66 which also pose danger to their life with the area being a congested with traffic all the time. Moreover, the mud puddles that has been created between the pavement  due to the heavy monsoon that has been pouring from last several days only makes the case even worse, additionally it also adds to the traffic jams and also pose danger to the drivers and riders as pedestrians and cyclists crossing the roads all of a sudden mainly senior citizens most often require them to apply sudden brakes, increasing the probabilities of accidents too. It is high time the concerned authorities take this up and repair the footpath in the best of interest for the public safety. (Bhatkallys News Bureau/Ismail Zaorez)
