Political parties in Bhatkal joined a nationwide call by United Farmers’ Front to protest government-backed farm laws. Bhatkal, September 27, 2021 (Bhatkallys News Bureau): In Bhatkal, as in other districts of Karnataka, shops and businesses continued as usual and bus services were not disrupted. However, members of the Congress Party, Welfare Party of India and CITU blocked the road in support of the closure and presented a memorandum to the President of India through the Assistant Commissioner. The Congress staged a sit-in at Shamsuddin Circle for a short while, chanting slogans against the central government and demanding repeal of the three agricultural laws. The protesters said that the BJP had come to power by making false promises to provide relief to the farmers, but for the last ten months, the farmers have been protesting across the country over their demands and the central government has not heard their grievances. On this occasion, other parties also called on the central government to repeal of the three agricultural laws.
