Bhatkal police seize foreign currency worth 80 lakh from Goa-Mangaluru train; two Bhatkal passengers arrested

Bhatkal 14 December 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Two people carrying foreign currency worth 80 lac rupees in Goa-Mangaluru train were detained at Bhatkal railway station by local police here.
The accused have been identified as Hasan Shabbar Ruknuddin (45) of Kaziya street of Bhatkal and Ummar Ahmed Guttighar (30) of Takiya street Bhatkal.
According to the reports, the two accused were involved in exchanging foreign currencies in lesser exchange rate than the actual face value and used to operate in Goa while dealing with foreigners there.
However, working on a tip-off, a police team led by Bhatkal Dy.SP Valentine D'Souza and Bhatkal CPI Ganesh KL reached Bhatkal railway station at 5.20 am, and arrested both the accused as they failed submit supporting documents for the possession of Foreign currency.
Currencies including Dollars, Swiss, Franc, Euros and others were seized from the accused which was taken to Mangaluru customs office to estimate the value, which confirmed that the seized amount amounted about 80 lac INR.
The foreign currencies included dollars, Swis franc, Dinnar, euros and others which was later taken to Mangaluru custom office to estimate the exact face value which later revealed to be worth Rs.80 lacs.
A case has been registered at Bhatkal town police station.
