Bhatkal 1 May 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) More than 30 cattle have been reported dead over last two days in the nearby localities of Kattagarkoppa Panchayat limits, reportedly after consuming wastes and poisonous chemicals produced by the local pig farm, which has resulted in outrage among locals and the cattle owners in this region.

The incident was first reported when several owners went on to search their cattle when the animals did not return home for over three days, and later found their animals dead in the open.

Local veterinarian Dr. Pradeep inspected the spot accompanied by the locals and concluded that the drainage system of the local pig farm has been completely become rotten and also it is effected the environment and atmosphere in the locality. "I suspect that the animals might have died by consuming the wastes and drinking the water that flows from the drainage of the pig farm" – he added.

He further said that the dead cows have been sent for medical examination and very soon their cause of death will be known.

The locals have been demanding ban of the pig farming in the area but their demands have been unheard for long. "The administration is now excusing themselves of Election duties for not banning the farm, however, if our demands are not meant and action in not initiated soon, we will call a strike against it in days to come" said one of the locals.
