Bhatkal - 21 Feb 2011: According to the latest reports, some section of people for their personal interest and gain putting pressure on National Highway Authority to reconsider its decision and bypass the proposed 4-lane highway from outside of town. According to the sources, some people with the support of politicians recently met Karnataka's NHI officials at Managalore and convinced them for bypass by providing false and misleading information. Acting on their request Karnataka Unit of NHI has sent a recommendation letter along with the map shown here to National Highway Authority of India, New Delhi asking for reconsidering their previous decision and approve the proposed bypass. According to the proposed bypass plan, the Express Highway will run other side of the Konkan Railway track in between Kuntawani and Ternamakki. It means the Highway will be moved some 10-15 Km away from the town and it will cost additional 300 crore rupees.

It may be noted that, recently Tanzeem has strongly opposed the proposed bypass and held a massive protest rally and submitted memorandum to the authorities against this. But Tanzeem seems helpless at this moment and the other group is silently using all possible tactics and influence to convince the authorities for the highway bypass.
