Bhatkal: New born girl child dies of burns as her mother set her on fire out of frustration

Bhatkal 13 March 2018: In a horrifying tragidy, a mother out of frustration burnt her 12 days old baby girl resulting in the newborn’s death, the incident took place on 9^th March 2018 near Venkatapur of Bhatkal.

Yashoda Gopal Moger of Venktapur is identified as the accused of the incident.

Yashoda who was married to Gopal Moger around three and a half years back went to her mother’s place which is at Venktapur due to pregnancy and for delivery of the baby. But as she delivered a baby girl, her husband didn’t visit her at her maternal house even after 12 days of the delivery. She alleged harassment by her husband and family, she took the extreme step of burning the girl child alive under depression and burnt her newborn with kerosene.

As soon as her mother noticed the incident she called for help from the local residents who helped the child to be shifted to Bhatkal Government Hospital and later to a private hospital at Manipal.

The girl child succumbed to the burn injuries at Manipal hospital on Saturday.

The husband then clarified that it was because he had been to the sea for fishing on a boat, he was unable to visit her wife after the delivery.

As the case was registered in Rural police station of Bhatkal the lady was Produced to the court and has been sent to remand home at Karwar while further investigations of the case are underway.
