Bhatkal: 28 March,2025 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Responding to a nationwide call by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), Muslims in Bhatkal staged a protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill on the last Friday of Ramadan by wearing black armbands. The protest was widely supported across the town, with demonstrators demanding the rejection of the bill and expressing solidarity with the Muslim Personal Law Board.
Bhatkal’s largest social organization, Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem, had earlier urged Muslims in the region, including the coastal belt, to participate in the demonstration. The appeal received overwhelming support, as worshippers at mosques across Bhatkal donned black armbands to register their opposition to the bill.
A key protest gathering was held at Tanzeem Jamia Masjid in Nawayath Colony, Bhatkal, where prominent figures such as Tanzeem President Inayatullah Shabandri, General Secretary Abdul Raqeeb MJ Nadvi, and AIMPLB Executive Member Atiqur Rahman Muniri, among others, participated in the demonstration.
The AIMPLB has strongly opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill, arguing that it threatens the autonomy of Waqf properties and undermines Muslim religious and charitable institutions. The board had urged Muslims nationwide to mark their protest by wearing black armbands during Friday prayers.
