Bhatkal: Mosque theft mystery unravels in compromise

Bhatkal 31 Jan 2018: A case of theft was reported at the Siddiqui Masjid on Qidwai road in Bhatkal on Wednesday morning.
The thieves allegedly broke open a window near the tomb and entered the Mosque using a rope to slide down from the top.
The incident was first reported during morning prayers as people saw broken window shards on the first floor and later noticed the hacked charity collection box.
One of the employees of the mosque who did not report for morning prayers was under suspicion. He was then called to the Mosque and following an inquiry, he confessed his crime, before re his statement saying he did not commit the crime.
He was handed over to police where he again confessed to the crime and named one of his friends who was allegedly involved with him in the crime. The management of the Mosque were about to file a case against the accused when the family pressed for compromise in the case which was later approved by the management.
The accused returned the cash amount of Rs. 30,000 which he stole from the Mosque's charity box seeking apology from the management.
