Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik makes surprise visit to Taluka Government Hospital

Bhatkal 02 June 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Newly elected MLA of Bhatkal-Honnavar constituency Sunil Naik on Friday made a surprise visit to Taluka Government Hospital of Bhatkal and took stock of the arrangements and facilities available for the patients and also questioned the preparedness of the hospital administration for emergency cases. In Bhatkal most of the emergency cases mainly of road accidents are first shifted to Taluka Government Hospital but due to lack of available facilities and appropriate services the patients are mainly referred to private hospitals in Kundapur, Mangaluru and Manipal from here. On Thursday 31 May, one of the patient who was admitted to the hospital after minor road accident, but absence of the in-charge doctor led to unnecessary delay in attending the patient, following which the issue was brought into the notice of Sunil Naik. Taking note of the complaint Sunil made a surprise visit to the hospital the next day i.e Friday and expressed his displeasure over the irregularities he found in the hospital premises. Sunil also interacted with the patients and their relatives while also expressing his displeasure with the cleaning staffs of the hospital for keeping the premises unhygienic for the patients and below the level of standard of hospitals. The MLA while speaking to the in-charge doctor, Dr. Dinakar strongly contended that the doctors at the hospital should be available all the time and patients whatsoever should have to bear consequences of their responsibilities. He also stock of the Dialysis service provided by the hospital, and upon bringing into his notice that only four patients can avail the service in a day he enquired the issue with the staff, who responded that they will need more machinery in dialysis lab to extend the number of patients treated in a day, to which Sunil assured of adding more machines in coming days. Dr. Dinakar later complained about the shortage of staff as against the sanctioned staff for the hospital, and blamed it to be one of the main reason behind the hospital's failure to serve the people and to their satisfaction. Sunil while speaking to media during the visit said he is willing to improve the services provided by the hospital and assured the requirements of the hospitals shall soon be met.
