Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik joins fishermen in protest at Malpe, blames JD(s)-Congress government for failing to trace missing fishermen

Udupi/Bhatkal: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Thousands of Fishermen, heads of various Associations and locals on Sunday took part in a huge protest at Malpe and blocked the National Highway, while criticizing the state and central Government for its inefficiency in search operation of seven missing fishermen who went for deep sea fishing from Malpe port on December 15. Several fishermen from Dakshina Kannda, Udupi and Uttara Kannada marched the protest rally from Malpe harbor towards Ambalpady through Karavali Junction, sloganeering against Government for delay in finding the missing fishermen. In the protest women were seen in a large number and were holding the board that Questioned “Is there no value for the lives of Fishermen?”. Moreover, fishing has halted in all the three coastal districts of Karnataka. The Association of Fishermen submitted the Memorandum to District in-charge Minister Jayamala stressing to speed up the search operation on the missing seven fishermen. Minister Jayamala Accepted the memorandum and ensured to speedup the search operation and find the missing fishermen ASAP. Security was beefed up with more than 500 policemen deployed to prevent mishaps and untoward incidents during the protest, traffic was also diverted at several place as the National Highway remained blocked for several hours due to the protest. Refreshments were arranged for the protesters who took part in the processions. Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik who took part in the protest at Malpe, on his official Facebook page he criticized the collision Government of Congress-JDS at the State and objected the delay in finding the missing fishermen. EX-Minister Pramod Madwaraj and Shobha Karandlaje shared clips of the protest on their official Facebook pages. On this occasion Political leaders including Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik, Kumta MLA Dinakar Shetty, Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, EX-Minister Pramod Madwaraj, Shobha Karandlaje, fishermen unions of Various district, heads and members of various associations and others were present during the protest.
