Bhatkallys News Service/ Rizwan Gangavali Bhatkal 15 December 2016: BJP Bhatkal unit today staged a massive protest against the insufficient supply of construction sand in the town by blocking national highway, forcing the town police to intervene in the matter and disburse the protesting crowd from the highway. Earlier in the day BJP members called on Assistant commissioner by staging a protest outside his office and later moving towards the landmark BSNL tower which connects Town with national highway and thereby blocking it for some time. Police department intervened in the matter and asked the protestors to unblock the highway but to no effect, after which they had to use the force to disburse the angry protestors. The protestors then headed towards the Tahsildar office and asked for his intervention into the matter to resolve it. The protest was led by several BJP leaders of Bhatkal unit including Krishna Asarkeri, Sunil B Naik, Ishwar N Naik, Dinesh Naik, Manjunath Naik and others, who blamed Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya for the whole matter and claimed that he is the one who is blocking any proceeding of the issue and threatened of more protests if the issue is not resolved by 25th of December. Mankal Vaidya on the other hand rubbished all the allegations against him and called the protest a mere political drama. He further clarified that it was a BJP member who had filed an application in court after which the court had put on hold the supply of Sand in Bhatkal till the court hear the case.
