Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Ismail Zaorez Bhatkal 21 March 2018: A 26 year old local boy of Bhatkal Muzahir, a resident of Kargedde locality, on Wednesday helped the Bhatkal Forest Department in successfully getting hold of a 14 ft long Indian Cobra at Hadolli Village on Sagar Road. The reptile reportedly trespassed into a field in the residential area of the village which panicked the locals who informed the forest officials about the reptile. According to Muzahir, he received a call from forest officials at around 10.30 am in the morning seeking his assistance in catching hold of the Indian Cobra. Muzahir then rushed to the spot and after almost struggling for over one-hour to pouch the Cobra, he finally pouched it into the bag and handed it over to the forest officials. Speaking to Bhatkallys.com over the phone call, Muzahir informed that he had been helping the forest department in catching poisonous snake for a while now and that he has got hold of around 18 reptiles including 3 King Cobras in last two months at seeral places in and around Bhatkal. When asked about his love for rescuing the reptiles, he said "I love to save these creatures as if we don't react and save them, most of the time they fall victims to the human cruelty and gets killed if they are seen anywhere in the residential areas, so as soon as I receive any calls regarding this I don't give a second thought to it and rush to the spot at the earliest to save them". When questioned about the safety equipment and measures Muzahir added, I have my own Snake catching stick and the forest officials gives me the bag in which I pouch the snakes, other than this I don't have any other safety equipment or measures during these assignments. The reptile is kept under the supervision and custody of the Bhatkal forest department and is expected to be released at the Kogar Forests, located around 25 Kms from Bhatkal town on Wednesday late night. Due to the unavailability of a professional snake catcher in the Bhatkal forest department, the department has been taking help of local self-made snake catchers with barely any professional training to to catch the poisonous snakes. Several youngsters regularly helps the department with their time to time services which they also term as their 'passion'.
