Nawaz Sharif, a Bhatkalli lad playing in the national games, is all set to return home after losing his documents on a train journey to Amritsar. The Taekwondo star now stands to be disqualified as his documents are missing.
Nawaz Sharif was to represent Karnataka university in national level Taekwondo championship to be held at Amritsar on Feb 17, but as they say luck has its own say in everything, Nawaz lost his bag along with his document while on his way to Amritsar on train.
Nawaz, who hails from Bhatkal, is a final year student of BA in Criminology at Karnataka college Dharwad and qualified for the championship after winning the university blues competition held in Dharwad earlier in Sept 2017.
Nawaz qualified under 80 kgs category, and booked himself the berth to Amritsar for National level championships.
Speaking to Bhatkallys.com Nawaz expressed his disappointment over losing out on participation at the highest level while also saying that he was very excited for the event and was well prepared for the competition.
He added "We are making efforts to convince the organizers to let me participate, but without my documents they are not letting me participate, it is disappointing to be at the venue and not be able to participate for a event for which we've been practicing for over five months now, it feels like 'So close yet so far'."
According to him, the team of Karnataka University which was travelling to Punjab on the same train lost three bags including his. He adds "Someone has stolen those bags, we haven't lost it".
Nawaz was to fight tomorrow and says "The chances are very very bleak that the organizers will be convinced by us to allow me fight for championship".
