Bhatkal karateka Ismail Nameer selected for Karnataka team after state gold

Bhatkal: 19 January,2026 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Ismail Nameer, a Karate player from Bhatkal and son of Nisar Ahmed Ruknuddin, has won a gold medal at the 17th State-level Karate Championship and National Selection Trials, securing a place in the Karnataka state karate team.

Nameer, a student of Huda International School, in Mangalore competed in the Junior category (16–17 years) in the -68 kg weight division. He defeated the defending gold medallist in the final bout with a score of 8–4.

With this result, Nameer has been selected to represent Karnataka at the National Karate Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in March.

The achievement came under the training and guidance of his coaches, Sensei Nadeem and Sensei Amar Shabandri.

Nameer hails from Bhatkal and has been training consistently in competitive karate, leading to his selection at the state level.
