Karwar 13 Oct 2017: Govinda Naik and Krishna Naik who were arrested last month in connection with the violence during the protests against TMC officials for seizing the shops of local vendors were on Friday granted bail by the court.
On Sept 14 2017 locals vandalized the TMC complex after one of the vendors attempted suicide at the TMC premises and later died in a private hospital in Manipal. Police had registered cases against more than one hundred people including BJP leaders Krishna and Govinda Naik.
The duo was arrested in September while many from the wanted list of the case went absconding from the police. On Friday when Krishna and Govinda were being released from the Karwar jail, several members and supporters of the BJP leaders arrived at the Jail premises to welcome their leaders, including six people who were absconding from the Bhatkal police fearing their arrest. Karwar police arrested all six of them and later handed them over to Bhatkal police for further legal course.
According to the sources the six were absconding their arrest in cases related to Dacoity (Section 395 of IPC) for allegedly trying to snatch mobile phones from police constables during the Sept. 14 protests.
