Bhatkal, 21 July 2017 (Bhatkallys News): A regular outing with friends took a turn for the worst as two swimmers dived on top of each other in an unfortunate accident. The duo has been identified as Marwan Muniri (19) and Shaheeb Shaikh (20).
Both are in critical condition and the impact of the collision left both men unconscious with severe injuries.
The incident took place on Thursday evening when two groups of friends went for a swim at a popular swimming spot in Shirali.
Shaheeb Shaikh, a resident of Badriya colony, dived from a height only to crash onto Marwan Muniri who had jumped a few seconds before him. The collision left both victims unconscious as they were rushed to the government hospital.
Marwan reportedly suffered an injury on his face with a fractured bone near his eye and a blocked nerve. Shaheeb on the other hand has injured his spinal cord and neck joint.
According to their friends, the victims were shifted to Kundapur following first aid in Bhatkal and later moved to Highland Hospital in Mengaluru.
Speaking with Bhatkallys.com, Naufil Kharuri, a friend of the victim and an eye witness, alleged doctors in Udupi refused to provide medical attention citing a very minor possibility of survival. The family was allegedly left with no choice but to transfer Shaheeb to Mangalore late at night.
He also revealed that he was going to dive in place of Shaheeb, but Shaheeb stopped him and insisted to let him dive first.
Naufil has called on people to provide financial aid to the family of Shaheeb, as his father works as a painter and Shaheeb was his helper after he dropped out from second PUC.
Marwan on the other hand is said to be kept in ICU while the sources confirmed that he was able to speak to his father last night. Marwan has also been shifted to the same hospital as Shaheeb for further treatment.
Bhatkallys.com wishes the duo a speedy recovery and call on its younger readers to exercise caution and restraint during group outings and picnics.
