Bhatkal: Forest department demolishes yet another home in Hanifabad amidst tight security

Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Rizwan Gangavali Bhatkal 27 Nov 2017: Bhatkal Forest Department on Monday demolished yet another home in Hanifabad locality in Bhatkal which was allegedly built on forest land. Forest officials at around 11.00 am reached with heavy police security, to the house of Banu B Hangal, who was staying their as tenant on the plot of Narayan Moger Venkatapur, and started demolishing the house. Speaking to mediapersons Ishwar Moger alleged he has the plot into his possession for over twenty years and has also got electricity at the plot without any objection from the department. He further alleged that the forest officials had been asking for bribe of Rs. 5000 from him from a long time to 'not to touch' his land. The forest officials on the other hand alleged that they had warned the owner and tenant both not to make any type of construction on the site as it falls under forest land, and despite the warning the construction was made in the matter of two days, which were government holiday so that the officials could not take any action when the construction was underway. Banu B Hangal, who is upbringing her children on her own, stood helpless during the demolition of her newly constructed home and within no time she was homeless too. Her cry in front of media yielded no results as the forest officials did not give the demolition a second thought. Speaking to the Bhatkallys.com, Bhatkal ACF Balachandra HC, said the department had issued several warning to the tenants and despite that they went ahead with the construction. Speaking about the heavy deployment of police personnel he said "It is the normal procedure to take along the local police in confidence before the demolition of any site and the hype regarding that in today's incident was unnecessary from the public.
