Bhatkal Fitrah Committee organizes Eid-Milan; Record 97,000 Kg Rice distributed this year

Bhatkal - 10 Sep 2011: Bhatkal Fitrah Committee organized an Eid-Milan here at Ali Public School on 08th September, Thursday. The program was attended by representatives of Bhatkal and Gulf Jamats, community leaders and local residents.

Speaking on this occasion, Fitrah Committee Convenor, Moulana Ilyas Nadvi presented the Annual report card and applauded the efforts of volunteers involved in the distribution and collection process. He said that, this year record 97,000 Kg of rice including 32,900 from various Gulf Centres like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and Jeddah was distributed among poor and needy families on Eid-ul-Fitr night by its volunteers. The beneficiaries included 1398 poor families from Bhatkal and surrounding areas and some villages of Kumta taluk. They received on an average 50 Kgs of rice and some very poor families received upto 200 Kgs. The market value of the total rice collected this year was estimated to around 18 lakh rupees.

It may be noted that, Bhatkal's Fitrah distribution system is around 28 years old.
