Bhatkal Fitrah Committee get-together held; 88,000 Kg rice distributed this year

Bhatkal - 28 Aug 2012: 88,000 Kilograms of rice collected and distributed this year by Markazi Fitrah Committee of Bhatkal. This was stated by Convenor of Bhatkal Fitrah Committee, Moulana Ilyas Nadvi. He was addressing the gathering on the occasion of Eid get-together organized by the committee here at Ali Public School. Providing the details he said, 'We have received 32,000 Kgs of rice from gulf regions including Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Jeddah, Riyadh, Bahrain and Dammam and the local collection was around 56,000 Kgs. It was distributed among 1471 poor families from Bhatkal and surrounding areas between Shirur and Kumta. They received on an average 50 Kgs and some very poor families received upto 200 Kgs. The market value of the total rice collected this year was estimated to around 20 lakh rupees.

The program was attended by representatives of Bhatkal and Gulf Jamats, community leaders and local residents.

It may be noted that, Bhatkal's Fitrah distribution system is around 28 years old.
