Bhatkal: Fishermen protests against night fishing; threaten to stop fishing if measures not taken immediately

Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Rizwan Gangavali Bhatkal 20 Jan 2018: “Bull trawling and floodlight fishing at night has resulted in several species of fishes disappearing from the region” said the local fishermen of Bhatkal. The fishermen were speaking at the protest rally in Bhatkal where they also submitted a memorandum against the floodlight fishing. And threatened that the fishermen community will stop fishing if the measures are not taken to stop it. They further added that the state and central government had imposed ban on floodlight fishing but a few fishermen are still going out for fishing during nights which has resulted in a few species of fishes disappearing a few more would disappear if it doesn't stop at the earliest. Assistant Commissioner then assured them of working towards the solution to the problem and said after the earlier protests in Karwar last week the administration has taken up the issue seriously.
