Bhatkal 10 July 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Bhatkal Tahsildar VN Bhatkar on Tuesday announced the dates of the election to elect the president of Jali Patan Panchayath. According to the press release issued by the Tahsildar the elections will be conducted on July 18 in the afternoon 3.00 pm.
The post of the president of Jali Patan Panchayath is vacant since the resignation of Abdul Rahim Shaikh whol resigned earlier in June citing several reasons including poor management of the administration and not meeting its demand of deputing full time engineer and chief officer among other, in a letter addressed to the Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner.
The nominations for the post will be filed on the same day between 10.00 am to 12. 00 pm, the post is currently reserved for the 2B category for this tenure. The new president will take charge for a period of 10 months that is remaining in this tenure.
It will be interesting to see if the Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem, a body which has a stronghold on 12 out of 20 seats at Jali Patan Panchayath will uphold its previous decision of electing Imran Lanka for the post, the decision was not implemented last time as a few last moment's turn of events and cross voting had elevated Abdul Rahim Shaikh to the post, a move credited to the then MLA of Bhatkal Mankal Vaidya by a section of local political experts.
Imran during the election was elected unanimously by Tanzeem for the post, but the plan did not work as it was planned.
Once again the Tanzeem will organize a meeting in the coming week to select its candidate for the post and once again Imran Lanka will be in the fray to contest election for the post, what will be interesting is if the Tanzeem selects him for the post or they will opt for other candidates, only time has the answers as the members and residents of Jali Patan Panchayath and other political pundits are kept waiting.
