Bhatkal: Drunk man tries to commit suicide on NH 66; rescued by locals

Bhatkal 29 Dec 2017: A drunk man on Friday afternoon tried to commit suicide by jumping off a building near Kamakshi Petrol Pump near Ranginkatte here.
On Friday afternoon when locals were returning from Friday prayers they noticed a man trying to jump off a building located behind Karnataka Bank, and immediately made attempts to rescue the man. The man in return started pelting stones from atop of the building at those trying to save him, attracting a huge crowd of people and blocking NH 66 for few minutes.
The locals however successfully reached atop of the building and rescued the man, he was then handed over to police who took him into their custody. The man is said to be a daily wage laborer from Bihar, working on a fishing boat here, police officials however couldn't confirm his name but suspected family's stress to be the reason behind the attempted suicide.
Speaking to Bhatkallys.com Bhatkal town PSI said "The man was first taken into our custody to ensure his safety and was later let off when his employer visited the police station and asked us for his release, as no case was registered we released him on the assurance of his safety from his employer".
