Bhatkallys News Bureau/ Rizwan Gangavali Bhatkal 16 Sept 2017: Ramachandra Naik, who attempted suicide at the premises of Municipality office on Thursday and succumbed to his burns in a hospital at Manipal on Saturday was cremated at the Bunder road cremation ground amidst tight police security at 11.00 am on Saturday. Earlier when the final procession of Naik was being taken out, police while citing security reason ordered the procession to not be taken out from the main road but resisting the orders people had a faceoff with the police officials and pushed them back to take the procession from the main roads. In the midst of the faceoff some of the police officials were seen having a laugh and taking the situation too lightly, and their body language lacked the seriousness to deal with the situation, because of which the miscreant were successful in tackling the high security and take the procession from the main road despite the speculations of Law and Order situation. This attitude of the officials has made the locals curious who also alleged, when the protestors were vandalizing the Municipal complex building they had seen similar situation and laughing faces of the officials which raises the question over the deliverance of the duties by the security forces and also about the double standards and the way in which they would have dealt with the situation had it been a different community in the same scenario. People also claimed that the situation can easily be under control if the police officials be committed in dealing with the situation with some seriousness. Earlier, BEO’s office had instructed the educational institutions to declare holiday on Saturday after administration speculated Ramachandra’s death to be a cause for the clashes and protests.
