Bhatkal: Delegation of social activists meets Konkan Railways officials; developmental work questioned

Bhatkal 01 October 2017: Officials of Konkan Railways today visited Bhatkal railways station on request from Krishnanand Prabhu and other social activists. Krishnanand Prabhu and others took the opportunity and questioned the officials about the developmental work that is to be done at Bhatkal railways station premises and other basic amenities that is yet to be made available at the Station.
Platform no. 2 was the focus for the social activists as they raised question about the unavailability of Drinking water, Electronic announcement system, sitting chairs and other basic amenities on the platform.
Later the delegation also raised the issue of Stoppages of trains at Bhatkal railways station and complained that only 15 pairs of trains have their stop in Bhatkal which has to be raised as other stations such as Mookambika Station Byndoor has more trains stopping at its platform than Bhatkal while Bhatkal is more beneficial when it comes to revenue.
Responding to the queries the Railway officials said, as per the norms of Railways Bhatkal station has more amenities than other stations of its Stature, he also assured the delegation of working for the development of the station further and meeting their demands.
The officials further said stopping the express trains on every other station is not possible as the train will lose its ‘Express’ tag if it stops at all the stations. And sought cooperation of locals regarding this issue.
