Bhatkal: Death toll in Manki accident reaches Eight, IGP western range meets families of victims at Udupi hospital

Bhatkallys News Service/ Rizwan Gangavali Bhatkal 25 May 2017: The death toll in horrific accident that took place on Manki National Highway during the wee hours of Thursday has gone up to eight. The accident took place when a Private bus rammed into an tourist bus on NH 66 killing several people including the drivers of both the buses. As per the sources all the people on the tourist bus were on their way to Dharmastala. Sources also revealed that among the deceased was a woman who was to get married on 27th of May, just two days later 24 people are said to be injured in the accident who have been shifted to hospitals in Kundapur, Manipal and Udupi. The deceased people have been identified as Private Bus driver, Umesh Valmakki (35), Tourist bus driver Nagayya (46), would be bride Devayya (23), Nagesh Shet (47), Sudesh Shet (38), Subramania (15), and Pooja Shet. A case has been registered at Manki Police station. IGP Western Range Meets Victims: Following the accident and casualties, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Western Range, Hari Shekharan paid a visit to Udupi hospital to meet the victims and their families and wished them quick recovery. Later, Spekaing to the media, Hari Shekharan expressed his disappointment over the poor conditions of roads and its vulnerability due to the under constructed sites and blamed it as the most important reason for such accidents. He also assured of taking up the issue with administration of poor and under constructed road sites. He also announced an ex-gratia amount of five thousand to the Injured victims and assured the families that he will try to further increase the amount.
