Bhatkal: Class 10 student drowns in lake after school’s extra-classes

Bhatkal: 08 November,2025 (Bhatkallys News Bureau)  In a tragic incident, a Class 10 student of New English School drowned in a lake at Asarkeri, Bhatkal, on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as 15-year-old Shashidhar Yogesh Moger, a resident of Venkatapur. Although the school was closed for the day, teachers had organised a special class for Class 10 students.

According to reports, after the session ended around 12:45 p.m., Shashidhar and five of his classmates had lunch together and later went to Zamarmatta Lake for swimming. While in the water, Shashidhar accidentally ventured into the deeper part of the lake and began to struggle. One of his friends tried to save him but was unsuccessful. Sources said Shashidhar was not a skilled swimmer, which likely led to the mishap.

On receiving information, DySP Mahesh K. and a police team visited the site and conducted an inspection. The body was later shifted to Bhatkal Government Hospital for post-mortem.

A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station.
