Bhatkal Citizen Forum demands 21 meter land acquisition for NH-66 widening project

Bhatkal - 17 Sep 2012: Bhatkal CitizenForumon Sunday 16th September submitted a memorandum demanding reduction in the width of land acquisition for National Highway widening project which is underway between Kundapur to Goa border. Forum members appealed NHAI and State Govt to reduce the width to 21 meter on each side instead of 30 meters. Many people will lose their land and buildings if the highway authority goes with its plan of 60 meters. They said. In their memorandum they mentioned the example of Kerala and Goa where only 21 meters of land is acquired for this purpose. They demanded same rule should be applied in the coastal districts also.
On this occasion representatives of several organizations including Majlis Islah wa Tanzeem, Parshuram Sports Club, Rotary Club Bhatkal, Top Emergency Helping Association, Seva Vahini, Auto Rickshaw Union, Rabita Society, Bhatkal TMC, Lions Club Murdeshwar and Bhatkal Taluka Working Journalist Association were present.
