Bhatkal: Christian community celebrates Good Friday

Bhatkal 31 March 2018: The Good Friday was observed at Bhatkal with special prayers in churches and the faithfuls observing fasts as a way of renunciation of earthly comfort to mark the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Christians around the locality marked Good Friday with the practice of the stations of the Cross (also called the ‘Way of cross’) around Puravarga area of Bhatkal reflecting the incidents during cruxifixion of the Christ .
As it was a holiday for government offices and educational institutions, many devotees attended special mass at 3:00 pm in the church. Rev.Fr.Baptist D’souza who was the main celebrant began his sermon stating, ‘Jesus was so crazy for people that he sacrificed his own life on the cross’. he further spoke about the importance of loving our enemies, staying connected with family in this modern world of busy lives and also appreciating the food made by mothers even if it tastes not so good.
However, Good Friday also marks the most important day of the season of Lent, where the devotees lead a 40-days frugal life sacrificing all luxury and physical comforts.
