Bhatkal celebrates World Environment Day with fervor

Bhatkal 05 Jun 2018: Students of several institutions along with officials of local government bodies and forest officials celebrated the 'World Environment Day' in Bhatkal on June 05. Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik kicked off the celebration at the Bhatkal Forest office near Shamsuddin Circle, following which hundreds of students of several institutions took to the streets a rally with placards and banners displaying facts and awareness quotes. The rally which began from Forest office headed towards government park on Bunder road, where the MLA along with students, forest officials and TMC officials planted trees. The students then moved back towards Forest office while shouting slogans and dispersed at Shamsuddin circle. Students of Anand Ashram Convent School, New English School, Vidyanjali Public School and others took part in the rally. New Shams School celebrates the day with plantation drive

However, New Shams English Medium School, going by its tradition organized its own ceremony for the day which concluded with plantation drive within the campus wherein more than 25 trees were planted by the guests and students. Speaking at the event Chief Guest Sadiq Matta, TMC President congratulated the school management and students on organizing one of its kind event in the town among all the schools and ensured all the support from TMC in future in organizing any such events. An Alumni of the school and Editor Bhatkallys.com Ismail Zaorez while addressing the students pressed upon individual contributions from the students and explained how some simple measures can play an important role in conserving the environment. He further urged students to minimize the use of plastic and focus on minimizing the fuel consumption while giving them tricks and tips on how to do it. TMC Chief Officer Venkatesh also addressed the students and referred them as the 'future citizen' while requesting them to also be a 'responsible citizen' and to take care of environment and our planet. He also focused mainly on the garbage dumping issue and requested everyone to utilise the garbage picking services by TMC. Namdhari Samaj President MR Naik, also addressed the students. The inauguration event concluded with the presidential remarks by Qadir Meeran Patel, school board secretary which was followed by the plantation drive.
