Bhatkal celebrates Eid-ul-Adha with religious zeal, fervour

Bhatkal 22 August 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) As the Nation celebrated the Eid-ul-Adha on 22 August 2018, people of Bhatkal also celebrated one of the two festivals of Islam with religious zeal and fervor, and offered the Eid prayers at the Juma mosques. Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu'l Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Hijri calendar (A lunar calendar comprising 12 months in a year of 354 days. The festival is celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to follow God’s command to sacrifice his son, when Allah appeared to him in a dream and asked him to sacrifice his son Ismail, as an act of obedience, as Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son Allah stopped him and gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead. To mark the occasion Muslims every year sacrifice animals (Sheep, Goat, Cow or Camel). According to the Islamic laws the animals are to be treated well, fed and loved till the day of sacrifice. For the convenience of people, the timing for Eid prayers were set in two shifts, while some of the mosques offered prayers at 7.15 am the others had it offered at 7.30 am, thousands of people marched into mosques early in the morning to offer Eid prayers. Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem had also arranged the collection of floods relief funds for Kerala by deploying its volunteers outside the mosques, while the scholars also made supplications for the flood hit state at the end of Eid sermons and appealed people to contribute to the flood relief funds. The sermons also stressed upon building unity within the Muslim community by setting aside all the individual and organizational differences, while also urging people to remain truehearted and faithful with their sacrifices.
