Bhatkal Block Congress demands interim relief of Rs. 5000 crores for Karnataka flood relief from Centre

Bhatkal 12 September 2019: Members of Bhatkal Taluka Block Congress Committee on Thursday organised a protest in Bhatkal urging the government to declare Karnataka Flood Situation as National Calamity and to release interim relief of Rs.5000 cr to the state.
The Rally which began from Block Congress Office near Shamsuddin Circle of Bhatkal reached Tahsildar office. During the protest the members also submitted a memorandum to Tahsildar addressing the Prime Minister of India.
The memorandum stated that, "Due to heavy rainfall this year, about 103 Taluka spread over 22 districts including Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and other districts were severely affected by flood disrupting the normal life, agricultural products, private properties and others."
On consideration of the above issues, the memorandum laid down several demands that includes Rs.10 Lakhs to be paid to people for reconstruction of houses of those who lost their houses due to floods, a special package of compensation for Coconut, Arecanut, pepper and other spice growers, compensation for people depending on animal Husbandry and also urged to provide all the basic facilities to the people.
The memorandum also urged the Central Govt to declare Karnataka Flood Situation as National Calamity.
Ex MLAs of Bhatkal JD Naik and Mankal Vaidya, ZP member Albert D'costa and other congress leader were present during the protest.
