Bhatkal 28 May 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Residents of Usman Nagar 1st cross on Monday summoned the PWD engineer of Town Municipal Council (TMC) Bhatkal and reprimanded about the poor conditions of the roads in their locality while also alleging dereliction of duty on his part. The residents of Usman Nagar alleged that the conditions of road has worsened over the years and although construction of new road has been sanctioned from the Deputy Commissioner's office, the PWD Engineer of TMC was delaying it for no reason. One of the resident of the area Nisar Mawad stated, "The construction of a new road was sanctioned by the DC office several months, and president of TMC and other officials had asked the concerned engineer and contractor to complete it on high priority after looking at the poor conditions of the road, but for some unknown reason all the works which were sanctioned along with this have been completed but not in our area, it is the engineer and the contractor who are delaying it". The Engineer who was accompanied by the sitting committee chairman of TMC Abdul Rahim, said "It is the contractor who has delayed the work, I have no role to play into this, and now since the monsoon has begun the construction of new road can only be taken after October" he added only to the dismay of the residents. The residents then threatened the engineer that if the construction work is not initiated in two-days they will demolish the roads completely to mark their protest and will approach higher authorities directly. Chairman Abdul Rahim then calmed down the residents and asked them to visit the TMC office on Tuesday to discuss the issue with higher officials and to come to an conclusion. The poor conditions of the roads in the locality has been a issue of concern for the residents for several years now, who have filed several applications and had visited the TMC office several times, while the officials continued to play the blame game one after another.
