Bhatkal: 30 year old commits suicide; hangs self from ceiling fan

Bhatkal 13 April 2018: A 30-year-old priest at Nichalamakki Venkataramana temple of Asarkeri ended his life by hanging himself to a ceiling fan at his residence in the wee hours of Friday 13 April 2018.

The deceased Shrinivas Raju Aiyanghar(30) used to reside at his house behind the Temple of Asarkeri.

Shrinivas in his suicide note “I am solely responsible for my death, and nobody else is to be blamed for it”

According to the sources Shrinivas’ father was also the priest of same temple, but after his death Shrinivas took over as the main priest of the temple.

Sources further adds that the priest had no enemies and was a friendly character. Personal issues are currently being suspected to be behind this extreme step.

"I spoke to him last night, and he was behaving normal, but as I entered his room today I found him hanging to the ceiling fan" said the victim’s Mother.

Local police were alerted about the incident who rushed to the spot and after initial investigations shifted the body to Taluka Government Hospital Bhatkal for post mortem. A case has been registered at Bhatkal town police station and further investigations are underway.
