Bhatkal: 18 fishermen from Coastal Karnataka's detained by Iran police; families submit memorandum to MEA Sushma Swaraj seeking help

Bhatkal 11 October 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) The relatives of the captive fishermen of Bhatkal and adjoining townss, in Iran along with executive members of Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner of Bhatkal, addressed to the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj requesting for her intervention in releasing the fishermen who are under detention of Iranian police.
The memorandum addressed the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj stated that, for the sake of earning their livelihood, about 18 men from coastal region of Karnataka who were working as fishermen in Dubai were taken into custody by the Iranian officials after they allegedly entered the Iranian waters while fishing about two and half months back and have since been held captive in their boat in Iran.
The detained fishermen included Ibrahim Mulla Faqira, Mohd Ansar Ismail Jubapu, Nayeem Hassan Bhandi, Yaqoob Ismail Shamali, Ilyas Ambadi, Ilyas Ghaaru Baitkuli, Inayat Abdul Qadir Shamali, Qasim Ishaq Bombari, Mohd Shareef Yusuf Jubapu, Abdullah Sulaiman Dangi, Ateeq Sulaiman Gharu, Matloob Maqdoom Sarang, Jaffer Ibrahim Tadlikar, Ibrahim Ahmed Hodekar and others.
The fishermen held captive belongs to Coastal Karnataka, including from Bhatkal, Murdeshwar, Kumta and adjoining towns.
The Memorandum requested the Government of India to intervene in this matter and help in releasing all the detained men from Iranian captivity.
On this occasion relatives and families of Captive fishermen, executives of Tanzeem and others were present while submitting the memorandum.
