Bhatkal: 13 students injured as school van overturns on Sagar Road

Bhatkal: Thirteen schoolchildren sustained minor injuries after a school vehicle overturned on State Highway-50 near the municipal garbage dumping yard at Kadasalagadde in Belalkhanda village of Bhatkal taluk on Tuesday morning.

According to information available, the vehicle was bringing students from Naguvalli, Haduvalli and Kuntavani areas towards Bhatkal. It is alleged that the vehicle was being driven at high speed and in a negligent manner when it went out of control, hit a roadside tree and overturned.

The injured students have been identified as Vasuki (7), Pradvith (12), Naksha (8), Akansh (11), Abhinandana (6), Josmin (11), Jiona Reji (12), Tresa (14), Disha (6), Tamanna (10), Sanath (9), Arav (5) and Vanshitha (11).

The driver also sustained injuries. All the injured were shifted to Bhatkal Government Hospital where they received first aid.

A case has been registered at Bhatkal Rural Police Station against the driver, Manjunath Jattappa Naik of Naguvalli. Investigation is underway.
