Bengaluru, Feb 26: A 28-year-old software engineer committed suicide in her flat on Saturday in Bengaluru, allegedly due to dowry harassment from her husband and in-laws. Rashmi Sathish lived in an apartment on Kempegowda Road. She texted her sister and told her that it was her last day. She also requested her to take care of her son. Alarmed with the message, the sister called her mother to check on her. Rashmi’s mother Bhagyamma rushed to her home an hour later to find the flat locked from inside. Her mother called son-in-law Sathish, who had gone to his village in Kolar. She also called the police, which came and broke open the door. The techie was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house. Later, police detained Sathish, a software engineer, and his mother Gayathri on accusations of dowry death. Bhagyamma alleged that they were creating pressure to bring more dowry. Police have registered a case against them. Sathish and Rashmi worked with different software companies. They had got married three years ago and have a 16-month-old son. Sathish had gone to his native village when the incident occurred. Rashmi had quit her job a few days ago. The body was sent for postmortem on Sunday. Source: India.com
