Bengaluru police bust illegal trade of wild animals' skin and horns in Sirsi, six arrested

Sirsi 22 July 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) The Bengaluru police on Friday arrested six persons at Sirsi who were allegedly involved in trading of skins and horns of wild life in Uttara Kannada district.
The detained persons have been identified as Uday Ram Naik a resort owner, Uday Gangadhar Raikar, Mahendra Hegde, Manjunath Naik, Raghavendra Poojary, and Sunil Naik.
Earlier on Thursday, the police of Mahalakshmi layout had arrested Manjunath Naik of Sirsi and Krishna Naik of Honnavar while selling skins and horns of wild animals in their police station limits in Bengaluru and booked them under Wildlife Protection Act.
Upon inquiry, the two revealed about involvement of six others in the illegal trade, following which the Bengaluru police reached Sirsi on Friday and made the arrests in a joint operation with Sirsi police.
The police also seized a skin of deer and six horns of Sambar deer in their illegal possession.
The police then took along all eight accused to Bengaluru, and will now book them under relevant acts.
