Bengaluru City's plog run to enter Guinness Records

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Tuesday organised the "Plog Run"— Replicating the Scandinavian trend where the joggers pick up garbage as they run. People from all age group participated in the event in 50 locations across the city and collected about 33.4 tonnes of plastic waste.
The plog run was organised on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi. The BBMP had partnered with several NGOs such as Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation, Let's Be the Change, United Way Bangalore, and Go Native to organise the program.
BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad has confirmed that in under 12 hours of the initiative, volunteers managed to bring in 33,495.45 kg of plastic waste. The previous record, was 28.5 tonnes collected in 12 hours. "This qualifies for the World Record," he said.
The event had about 7,000 volunteers participating at 50 different locations in the city. Among all the plastic waste that was picked up by joggers, disposable plastic bottles topped the list in terms of tonnage, said a representative from Hasiru Dala.
