Belagavi sharpshooters robbed areca trader

MANGALURU: With the arrest of six sharpshooters in Belagavi on Wednesday, Mangalury City police have also cracked the dacoity case of an arecanut merchant who was robbed at gun point of Rs 5 lakh cash that he was carrying at Aivarnadu under Bellare police station limits in Sullia taluk. The arrested are: Mohammad Haneef, resident of Belandur village, Abdul Kareem, Tahir Hussain from Bengaluru, Avinash Marke from Mumbai and Sayyed Rehman.
According to police, the six fled to Belagavi after committing crime on January 23. They were hatching a plot to free sharpshooter Dinesh Shetty, who is lodged at Hindalga Jail, Belagavi. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested them and during investigation they revealed about their role in the recent robbery of the arecanut merchant at Dakshina Kannada. They will be handed over to Bellare police for further investigation.
