Banaras Hindu University chief proctor named in student murder FIR

The chief proctor of the Banaras Hindu University was among the five persons booked for the murder of a varsity student who was shot dead on campus on Tuesday. Chief Proctor Royana Singh faces charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. The FIR lodged by the police at Lanka police station names Royana Singh, BHU chief proctor, as accused number 1, while four other students — Ashutosh Tripathi, Rupesh Tiwari, Kumar Manglam and Vinay Dwivedi — are also accused. An MCA student at BHU, Gaurav Kumar was on Tuesday evening shot at by four bike-borne persons who targeted him while he was standing at the Birla A intersection in the sprawling campus. He was rushed to the BHU trauma centre but succumbed to his injuries, said a police officer. Four persons have been arrested in connection with the case. As per the police complaint lodged by the deceased student's father Rakesh Pratap Singh, Ms. Royana Singh is accused of hatching the "conspiracy" to get his son murdered as part of an old enmity. Anil Kumar, the circle officer, said it was a case of personal enmity, between the students. The FIR was lodged under Sections 147, 148,149, 120 B, 302 and 34 of the IPC and 7 CLA. Source: The Hindu
